Teen arrested for second degree murder in Elmira

Waterloo police say they have arrested the 17-year-old boy wanted in connection with the suspicious death of a 57-year-old woman in Elmira on Christmas day. The teen is accused of second-degree murder and is expected in court Thursday.

Police identified the woman as Elizabeth Alder, they haven’t released the cause of death but they do classify it as suspicious.

Neighbours say she was renting the house and is friends with the home owner. She was living there for a few months.

“She was just new here. She was having a divorce and she had a place to live while she got a new house because she was a friend of the lady who owns the house.”

Police say Alder and the teen accused of killing her are known to each other but wouldn’t say how.
