A man has been arrested following a lengthy police standoff in central Hamilton.

It happened near Madison Ave. and Cannon St. East around 11:30 Tuesday.

An investigating into an assault and forcible confinement incident prompted a large police presence in the area.

Just before 2 a.m., Hamilton police arrested a 39-year-old man. There is no word yet if any charges will be laid.

Police will not be releasing any names for the safety and privacy of the victim.

The Criminal Investigations Branch will continue the investigation.
