West leg of Hamilton’s Sherman Access closed until November

Starting Tuesday, the west leg of the Sherman Access will be closed for long-term construction.
The City of Hamilton says the closure will begin at the bottom of the Sherman Cut and run to Charlton Ave. East.
Crews are reconstructing the retaining structure along the roadway and anticipate the closure will last until late November.
Downbound traffic coming off the Claremont Access will still be able to access the bottom of the west leg of the Sherman Access to Charlton Ave. East throughout the construction period.
The entire length of the Wentworth Stairs will also be closed as crews work to rehabilitate the footings at the base of the stairs and complete proactive work to alleviate erosion along the footpath beside the stairs.
The east leg of the Sherman Access will remain open.
A section of Dartnall Road on Hamilton Mountain will also be closed for approximately four months beginning Tuesday.
The City of Hamilton says Dartnall Road between Rymal Road and Stone Church Road East will be closed for construction that includes road widening, drainage and lighting improvements. There will be access to local businesses on the road during the construction.
