Ottawa’s Canada 150 celebrations on Parliament Hill were in full swing despite a downpour of rain.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his wife Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau and their children arrived along with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Trudeau took to the stage and declared that although today is officially Canada’s 150th birthday, the land and Indigenous people in it have been around for a lot longer than that.
And with members of the royal family, politicians, celebrities and thousands of Canadians in attendance in Ottawa, security was tight in the nation’s capital.
As a result of the soggy conditions, crowds that were projected to number in the hundreds of thousands were estimated at just 25,000 as the show wrapped up.
