A Hamilton mother is outraged after her 5 year-old daughter was dropped off at her bus stop without a guardian, when she was supposed to be in after-school care and this isn’t the first time it’s happened.
According to Jessica Stadig her 5-year-old daughter Lexi was let off her school bus without someone to walk her home for the third time in two years. She should have been at the school’s care centre but instead Lexi was dropped off at the corner of Lorne and Maplewood avenue, with only the company of her 8 year-old bus buddy. Lexi’s mother fears she could have gotten lost on her four-block walk home, or worse.
In the most recent incident her bus buddy’s mother was there to look after the girls, but Jessica says the previous times she wasn’t so lucky.
“She was let off the bus, she was three and alone for two hours.”
Caledonia transportation’s policy states that no child in senior or junior kindergarten is allowed to be dropped off without a guardian present and if they’re not there the bus driver is supposed to keep the child on the bus and immediately notify the company. The company says they’re dealing with the incident internally, and the driver is being re-trained.
However, they say they have no record of it happening before but Jessica says she’s reported all 3 incidents to the company and been apologized to every time, but nothing seems to change.
