Hamilton fire will launch its new *Fire Safety Education Program* this week by going door-to-door checking for smoke alarms.
Between 7pm and 9pm Monday to Friday and on Saturday between 10 am and 12pm, fire safety officers will visit homes in Hamilton.

They’ll test smoke alarms and if necessary will provide and install detectors and batteries for free.

Last year, firefighters responded to 287 structure fires across the city – 70 percent of those happened in people’s homes. 11 people died last year as a result of fire.
