Niagara police arrested one person during Friday’s overnight Holiday Season RIDE program.

Officers stopped over 500 vehicles throughout the night.

In total, 10 people were required to provide a breath sample into a screening device.  The driver of one car was arrested for impaired driving and as a result, had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and their car was impounded for seven days.

“An additional driver also received a three day drivers licence suspension,” said Niagara police in a statement.

Police issued over a dozen Provincial tickets to drivers who were in violation of the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

“While the holiday season is a time to visit friends and family, the Niagara Regional Police would like to remind drivers to plan ahead so everyone can arrive alive,” police continued in press release. “Impaired driving is still the leading criminal offence causing deaths in Canada.”
