Large portion of Canadian kids overweight

Statistics Canada says almost a third of Canadian kids are either overweight or obese.

The agency says data from a Canadian health measures survey from 2009 to 2011 shows that over 30% of children aged five to 17 are overweight.

That’s an estimated 1.6 million people.

The prevalence for obesity was higher for boys, especially before the age of 11.

The good news is the numbers don’t seem to be going up.

The survey says the estimates of obesity among children haven’t changed in recent years.
