Niagara police have charged a man after his child was taken in a stolen vehicle last week.

Police received a call on Friday saying a Toyota Prius had been stolen from a St. Catharines parking lot with a two-year-old child inside.

Soon after, the child was dropped off at a business in Grimsby. The car was later recovered by the Hamilton Police Service.

Police say they have charged the toddler’s father with abandoning a child “for putting the child at risk.”

His name is being withheld to protect the child’s identity.
