Terry Fox Way

It was 36 years ago that Terry Fox decided to run across Canada on a prosthetic leg to raise money for cancer research. After running a marathon a day for 143 days, Fox was forced to stop but his legacy continues to grow. The marathon of hope never made it to Niagara Falls but that didn’t stop the city from naming a street after the great Terry Fox. The roadway in front of the Gale Centre will be known as Terry Fox Way.
“Terry wasn’t doing it for himself. Not to be a hero or rich or to be famous, or get medal, or a roadway named after him. Terry wanted to touch the lives or other people and change the outcome of cancer.” Fred Fox, Terry Fox’s brother.
The Terry Fox foundation has raised over $700 million since it started in 1980. It’s raises between $25 to $30 million every year, which funds research for various cancers including lung, ovarian and bone cancer, the same cancer Fox was diagnosed with.
On September 18th Canadians across the country will take part in the crusade against cancer, the Terry Fox run.
