A motion put forth by Councillor Sam Merulla to have Pokemon GO remove Hamilton Municipal cemeteries from the game, has been passed in council this morning.

The Ward 4 councillor presented a motion to the city’s Public Works Committee directing cemetary staff to contact Niantic-the maker of the popular gaming app for the immediate removal of Hamilton’s cemeteries.

Merulla says gamers are congregating in cemeteries to play the game, which he says is both disrespectful to the deceased and the family of the deceased.

Earlier this summer, a mother from Burlington had petitioned to have her son’s memorial removed from the game after people sent her pictures showing it as a “Pokestop”.
