OPP investigating fatal crash overnight in Brant County

A man in his 20’s is dead after he hit a tree on Newport Rd. in Brant County.

Police say he was heading southbound on Newport Rd. when he lost control of the car he was driving and struck a tree, splitting the car in half. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Brant OPP officers were on patrol at about 1 a.m. when they came across the collision.

No word yet on what caused the collision.

He has been identified as 26-year-old Barry Vanevery of Grand River First Nation.

The investigation is ongoing.
