The city of Kitchener has been on high alert for the past three days, since a 6-foot python reportedly went missing and was seen roaming the area. The search of the 14-year-old red-tail boa constrictor, named Darko began on Tuesday, after Waterloo police and the humane society received a call about his escape. But his owner wants to put an end to the speculation.

“Everyone’s telling me this big, vicious giant python is on the loose. He’s in my house, he’s coiled under my fridge.”

Miranda Beechy tells CHCH, it’s a huge misunderstanding. She told her neighbour her snake had gone missing, she meant missing from his cage, not outside her apartment.  News about the escaped snake spread like wild fire, causing some concern for residents

Having a snake as a pet is legal under Kitchener city bylaws, but under certain conditions. Beechy says she never registered him because he’s under six feet. She insists there’s no danger to public safety.
