With heat warnings continuing and little signs of rain, lawns are feeling the heat many turning yellow and dry. Lawn Lift, a Vancouver-based paint provider may have the solution and says sales for green paint in Ontario have increased over 100% this summer.
While grass painting is gaining traction in the province, it isn’t new. In fact it’s been used for over 20 years in the U.S, mostly in states where droughts are common. However, local residents have mixed opinions about the growing trend. Some are worried about the effects of the paint on children and pets but the makers say the paint is safe and made from earth pigments and oil. It’s even biodegradable and does no damage to the environment.
The cost is about 20 cents per square foot. Meaning it costs about $100 to $300 to paint your lawn and lasts about three months. With no major rainfall in sight Steve Cardoso, a local lawn painter, expects to be very busy for the rest of the summer.
