Black man stopped by police

A former Hamilton resident is making unexpected headlines this week after police in New Brunswick pulled him over and questioned him for reading a book in his car.
The Director of Park, Recreation and Tourism in Bathurst, New Brunswick believes the Mounties pulled him over recently because he is black.
33 year old Louizandre Dauphin says he was just looking for a quiet place to spend a few hours reading when he parked his car near a wharf.
He was a bit stunned when the RCMP pulled him over as he left because they had received several calls from concerned citizens reporting a “suspicious person.”
He says the officer was respectful, but feels the incident highlights a “systemic problem” regarding race.
Dauphin says the experience is not new as he’s been stopped in “various locations” before, including in Hamilton.
