A man from Brampton is facing nine charges in an alleged case of human trafficking in Niagara.

Niagara Regional police began the investigation in February, and on April 28th, with the help of the Peel Regional Police Service, they arrested 25 year old Joshua Mark Thomas.

In late 2015 police were called to a Niagara Falls hotel after hotel staff witnessed what looked to be a domestic dispute.  When police arrived the man and woman weren’t talking.  Later the woman contacted police.  Police believe the woman was involved in the sex trade industry before meeting Thomas, and while together Thomas became violent.

Joshua Thomas has been charged with human trafficking, two counts of assault, forcible confinement, choking, withholding documents, uttering threats and two counts of receiving a material benefit.
