Barred from their boats

100 boat owners are calling “mayday” after being locked out of a boat yard in Niagara.
They are being told to find new winter storage after a lease was terminated by the St.Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and Ship Shape Boat Yard because there was an issue over tax payments between the two. Ship Shape is a storage yard where boats are kept during the off season and owners can have them serviced during that time and ready for launch in the spring.
Boat owners are being asked to contact their insurance companies and have them add the St.Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and Transport Canada to their coverage plans should any of the boats be damaged while being moved.
Some of the boaters have told CHCH that the insurance companies don’t want to play ball. In the mean time, only owners with the amended insurance forms will have access to their boats.
Boat owner Greg Swallow says he would have already had mechanics service his boat for the spring launch, but now he’s not sure how long it will take to get qualified help to the ship yard in Port Weller.
