Diabetes reversal research in Canada
Canadian researchers have reversed diabetes in mice.
Researchers at the University of British Columbia injected human stem cells into diabetic mice.
After three to four months, the mice were weaned off diabetes medications and were able to maintain a healthy blood sugar level even if they were fed a high-glucose diet.
Side effects included cartilage formation where the stem cells were injected.
Researchers hope they’ll be able to completely reverse diabetes in people by getting stem cells to re-start insulin production.
