Cold weather is to blame for two water pipe bursts in Burlington overnight.
Police and firefighters responded to a ruptured pipe at the back of Food Basics grocery store on Fairview Street where water was flowing through the back door and into the parking lot. Halton police say there’s significant damage to the back of the newly renovated store, but a dollar figure hasn’t been calculated.
Earlier in the evening Burlington fire arrived at Alton Public Library to find water on the floor. Part of the library was flooded after a pipe broke when the temperature outside dropped below zero. Tthere’s damage to books shelves and the flooring. Representatives from the city were on scene.
