Sexually charged emails and heartfelt letters were revealed today at the Jian Ghomeshi sexual assault trial. The notes were produced by complainant Lucy DeCoutere after the alleged attack, which she says took place at the former CBC radio host’s home almost 13 years ago.
Lucy DeCoutere told police in 2014 that Jian Ghomeshi made her uncomfortable and she never had romantic feelings about him following the alleged assault at the former broadcaster’s home in 2003. Marie Henein said DeCoutere, who opted out of the publication ban, withheld information about her relationship with Ghomeshi from police.
It got very dramatic in the courtroom when Marie Henein revealed a string of emails between DeCoutere and Ghomeshi that were sent after the alleged assault and it all led up to a hand written love note five days after the alleged assault, a letter DeCoutere never told police about.
DeCourte says she tried to normalize her situation knowing that she would run into Ghomeshi at future industry functions. Her lawyer says that her coping mechanisms doesn’t make the alleged abuse less wrong.
The trial will continue on Monday morning,
