HAPPENING NOW:

Toronto to battle bed bugs

Toronto City Council is going to spend a $250,000 to fight bed bugs.

The city will also ask the province to match that amount and commit to longer-term funding for next year and beyond.

Toronto’s bedbug eradication team was dismantled in may when the province’s one-time funding of $1.2 million ran out.

Staff estimates the team exterminated more than 1,500 bedbug infestations, a third of them in Toronto community housing units.
