A serious crash in Niagara Falls on the QEW has sent a 63-year-old man to hospital with what police say are life-altering injuries.

OPP Kerry Schmidt said a flat bed trailer carrying an excavator struck an overpass on the QEW near Highway 420 sending concrete flying into a passing vehicle.

The man was airlifted to hospital.

Police continue to investigate. No word on any charges.
