Hamilton police launch long weekend driving blitz

Hamilton police will be out in full force this long weekend, cracking down on distracted driving, and speeding.

The Labour Day Enforcement Initiative will run from Friday until Monday and focus on unsafe drivers.

Police say the long weekend driving blitz will incorporate high visibility of traffic enforcement throughout the city with strategic objectives towards public awareness and education.

They say resources will be in “areas of concern” throughout the city in hopes of reducing the number of collisions.

During the last long weekend driving blitz, police issued 425 tickets over three days. The police service is hoping motorists will use safer driving habits this weekend and there will be fewer tickets handed out.

The enforcement program is part of the overall approach to traffic safety which supports the Hamilton Strategic Traffic Programs.

“The HPS is committed to Vision Zero, a shared vision with the City of Hamilton to reduce and eliminate fatalities and injuries on our roadways,” said police in a news release. “Safe driving starts with you.”
