A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family of a Grimsby man whose body was found in Lake Ontario.

The goal to raise $10,000 towards the education of David Martens’ three children was already surpassed as of Tuesday morning.

Martens was last seen around 3 p.m. on July 27 near the kayak rental at Beacon Harbour in Jordan Station.

Detectives believed he may have rented some type of watercraft like a kayak or paddleboard before he went missing.

The NRPS Marine Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and the Canadian Coast Guard searched the waterways with planes, vessels, helicopters, and underwater sonar but did not locate him.

The search for the 46-year-old ended on Aug. 1 when his body was found near the shore of Sandy Cove Dr. in Beamsville.

Police say the circumstances around Martens’ death remain under investigation, however, foul play is not suspected.
