Hamilton police search for teens who climbed down sewer grate

A woman called police after she watched two 13-year-old boys open a sewer grate between Tuscani Drive and Highway 8 in Stoney Creek. The boys then managed to climb in. Hamilton Fire’s Confined Space Rescue team responded.

The team found evidence the boys went underground but could not find the teens. Police say there is a 20-foot drop underground from the top of the sewer. After searching 600-feet in each direction, it was determined the boys were not there and had returned above ground.

Police are no longer investigating the call but warn the public that it is dangerous to enter the sewers. They say the gas underground is not safe to inhale.
