It isn’t just Hamilton dealing with alarming overdose figures, paramedics in Halton are seeing the same trend with the highest number of opioid overdoses coming from Oakville.

Halton paramedics say in 2010 there were 40 confirmed opioid deaths in the Halton region and this year the numbers are continuing to follow a similar pattern.

From May of last year to April of this year, Halton paramedics have responded to 183 calls for suspected opioid overdoses across the region. During the first four months of the year there have been 89 calls, a much higher number than the 50 calls received during the same period last year.

Halton region say the area of Oakville with the highest density of calls is south of the QEW between Kerr St. and Trafalgar.

Police are working on a new set of prevention strategies expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
