Vigils planned in Toronto to honour victims of van attack

Ceremonies and vigils are planned for Tuesday to honour the victims of last year’s deadly van attack in Toronto.
The city was gripped with grief after a white rental van mounted the sidewalk on one of the city’s busiest streets and struck down dozens of people.
Toronto is expected to install temporary signs in the area to commemorate the tragic event until permanent memorials are made.
An event will also be held at the Mel Lastman Square Amphitheatre at 1:30 p.m. to coincide with the time of the April 23, 2018 incident that left 10 dead and 16 injured.
Events are being planned in the neighbourhood where the attack happened including a moment of silence and a free dinner.
Alek Minassian, 26, is charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder and 16 counts of attempted murder. He is set to face trial in February 2020.
