Prostate treatment

Treating some older prostate cancer patients may do more harm than good.

Researchers analyzed medicare data on almost 40,000 prostate cancer patients over the age of 67, and found cancer treatment was increasingly aggressive in patients who had the lowest likelihood of seeing clinical benefits.

Researchers say while not treating potentially fatal cancer can reflect poor-quality care, aggressively managing the disease could put patients at risk for complications.
