Hamilton city councillors are officially on the job

It’s back to business at Hamilton’s City Hall. Hamilton’s new mayor and council were led into chambers Monday evening and were officially sworn in.
This council is closer to gender parity than ever before with seven women elected to the 16 member council and for the first time, a woman of visible minority holds a seat at the table.
The most contentious issue in the election campaign was the Light Rail Transit (LRT). Many dubbed the election as the referendum on LRT in the city.
Mayor Fred Eisenberger says the $1 billion project will transform all parts of Hamilton and is encouraging rural areas to come together.
Premier Doug Ford was in Grimsby last week and stated that if the mayor wants an LRT, he will get an LRT. The mayor and the Premier are hoping to meet before the holidays to talk about next steps moving forward.
