There’s a reason for the giant inflatable toilet perched in Hamilton’s Gore Park Friday.

The 15-foot toilet is part thank you and part awareness campaign for World Toilet Day, which is on Monday.

Billions of people around the world don’t have access to safe sanitation.

That means tonnes of human waste is not being captured or treated, contaminating water and soil.

In fact, 1.8 billion people use a drinking water source that could be contaminated with faeces.

World Toilet Day is about taking action to ensure everyone has access to toilets and sanitation systems that work with ecosystems by 2030.

The Gore Park toilet will be on display until 1 p.m. Friday.
