U of Guelph researchers make ovarian cancer discovery

It’s important to say this news is being met with cautious optimism.
Scientists have discovered a peptide, a naturally occuring protein that shrinks advanced tumours in the ovaries. Not only does it tackle the size, it also cuts down abnormal blood vessels in tumours, while leaving healthy ones intact.
Researchers say this development would actually enhance the delivery of chemotherapy drugs inside the tumour, in turn improving survival rates.
As significant as this research appears, it’s important to point out the studies have only been done in mouse models. It’s hoped to eventually lead to human trials.
