Environment Canada has extended it’s heat warning for much of the province with humidity levels soaring into the mid forties.

The message doesn’t seem to be registering, there were a number of calls today to police about animals being left in hot cars.

A German shepherd clearly in distress was found panting and scared.

Halton Police were called around 2:30 this afternoon to Appleby Line and Upper Middle Road.

The officer was able to get the dog out, cooling her off inside his police cruiser.

The owner of the dog was seen talking to Halton officers as well as animal control was called to the scene and was seen speaking to the owner of the dog.

The officer took temperature readings which indicated it was 66 degrees inside the vehicle.

The man, believed to be from Oakville, was charged for leaving the dog in his car and for not providing adequate water.

The fine is about $500.

It is unclear if the dog was released back to the owner.
