Leading causes of death

Cancer and heart disease caused just over half of Canada’s 238,000 in 2008.

That’s according to Statistics Canada, which says cancer was the leading cause of death in every province and territory for the first time.

Other leading causes were stroke, respiratory disease, accidents and diabetes.
