Annual Escarpment clean up event

In time for Earth Day tomorrow, hundreds of volunteers were out to do their part to clean-up the environment.

The annual escarpment project is the largest of its kind in Canada.

Volunteers put on their boots and gloves, ready to pick up trash and debris along waterfalls, stairs and trails in the Hamilton area.

The Spring clean up event first started at the Devil’s Punch Bowl in 2011 with just a hundred people.

Its founder, Greg Lenko says he anticipated about a thousand people to come out today.

The city provides volunteers with garbage bags and supplies are provided by sponsors of the project.

During the first year the event took place, they finished with an overflowing dumpster and ten pickup trucks full of garbage.
