OPP gun amnesty program recovers over 250 weapons

Ontario Provincial Police say more than 260 guns have been turned over at the midway point of its gun amnesty program.

OPP say they received 218 gun amnesty calls between Apr. 1. and Apr. 16.

Officers have picked up 267 items, including restricted, prohibited, replica, and vintage weapons

Just over 5,200 pieces of ammunition were also surrendered during this period.

The campaign runs until April 30.

Any Ontario resident can voluntarily surrender unwanted or illegally-owned firearms, weapons, accessories, or ammunition.

Amnesty is not offered for people who turn in weapons that have been used in a crime and no anonymous submissions will be accepted.

OPP say they will make appointments to pick up the weapons and under no circumstances should anyone try to deliver guns or ammunition directly to police facilities.
