City of Hamilton hosting Open House for proposed downtown core

The City of Hamilton is hosting a drop-in Open House to share the proposed Secondary Plan and Zoning for Downtown Hamilton.

The Secondary Plan will guide the development of the downtown core over the next 15 years.

The City’s goal is to build 5,000 to 6,000 new homes downtown that will accommodate around 8,500 to 10,000 people.

The City of Hamilton’s stated vision for downtown is “A vibrant focus of attraction where all ages, abilities and incomes can live, work, learn, shop and play. The future downtown shall be healthy, safe, comfortable, accessible and a prosperous community that promotes a high quality of life. It will combine the best of our heritage, with new concepts and designs, while seamlessly linking together the downtown, surrounding neighbourhoods, the waterfront and the Niagara Escarpment.”

This updated plan and zoning by-law is the culmination of seven years of work and reflects the input of 34 public consultation events.

The plan was released early to the public to allow enough time to read before it is presented at the Planning Committee meeting next Tuesday.

The Open House will take place at the David Braley Health Centre Monday at 6 p.m.
