12 large bags of unstamped tobacco seized near Cornwall

Two people are facing charges after roughly 472 lbs of unstamped tobacco was seized during a traffic stop near Cornwall.

The Cornwall Regional Task Force says a vehicle was pulled over on March 22 at a South Glengarry marina.

Police along with Canada Border Service Agency officers seized the vehicle along with 12 bags of fine cut tobacco.

“This is another great example of collaborative efforts with our partners to disrupt organize crime activities. With the spring weather approaching, we would like to remind everyone of the importance, as a community, to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to police immediately,” stated Insp. Sue Black, Officer in charge of the RCMP Cornwall Detachment.

New York residents Elizabeth Maracle, 59, and Rahsontanohstha Delormier, 23, have been charged with possession of unstamped tobacco.

Maracle and Delormier are scheduled to appear in court on April 17.
