5 schools placed in ‘Hold and Secure’ as police search for a man with a weapon

Hamilton police placed several schools in the Dundas area in Hold and Secure on Thursday morning as they searched for a male with a weapon.

Around 11:30 am police received information of a male firing a weapon in the area of Governor’s rd and Creighton rd in Dundas. Five local schools were placed in hold and secure as a strong police presence was in the area.

A short time later an 18 year old man from Dundas was detained and voluntarily surrendered an air pistol. The pistol was not equipped with any projectiles. Police are not laying any criminal charges as at no time was there a threat to the community.

The Hold and Secure for Sir William Osler Elementary School, St. Bernadette’s Catholic Elementary School, Dundas Valley High School, Dundas Montessori School and Dundana Elementary School was lifted shortly  before 12:30 pm.
