Niagara College was abuzz with excitement Friday morning, as the shipping containers that will house a pot-growing lab were put into place. The state-of-the-art facility is being built to meet the needs of the college’s new commercial cannabis production program. The graduate program is the first of it’s kind in Canada and competitive. Receiving over 300 applications, but only accepting 24.

Over the next few days the containers will be welded together and then work will begin inside. Only 3 of the 5 containers will actually be used to grow the cannabis and can accomodate anywhere from 150-200 plants. The containers cost $250 000 and were designed to house marijuana plants.

No consumption or selling of the cannabis will be allowed. The purpose is to demonstrate the grow and then once the products are matured they will be destroyed.
