There have been 98 confirmed cases of the flu in Hamilton, but health officials say there are many more people sick who aren’t getting tested.

Infectious diseases experts are describing this flu season as unusual because a mix of two primary strains is making people sick. 70% of flu cases in Canada were attributed to H3N2 strain, a nasty virus that tends to infect the elderly in greater numbers.

In Hamilton since the beginning of November, over 600 people have visited the emergency room with flu like symptoms and doctors here attribute it to “the time of year”.

Doctors suggest to still get the vaccine, it will start working two weeks after the shot. They also recommend washing your hands a lot, staying at home if you’re sick and if you are coughing or sneezing do it into your sleeves.
