Renters living next door to a town home that caught fire a month ago say nothing has been done since and they’re living with the cold consequences. The fire started in unit 20, the couple in unit 18 share a wall with the damaged unit, a wall that isn’t properly insulated because its supposed to be an interior wall but its now exposed to elements.

“The furnace we hear it, it just pretty much never turns off, it’s just constant. We have space heaters on all the time. On the really cold nights when it was down to -30 we even had to turn the oven on and open the oven door and periodically heat up here with the oven that’s how bad it was.”

The fire started in the balcony and ripped through the townhouse complex on December 8th causing at least a million dollars in damage and affecting nine of the 12 units on Nisbet blvd. The entire unit is now completely gutted and there’s just an interior wall separating the two.

“After a week or so it was getting a little bit annoying but now that its been a month it is getting really frustrating because this is where we live.”

As for the neighbours on the other side, their home was completely destroyed after the flames spread and will have to be gutted.
