Water main break

People living in a Hamilton neighbourhood have been wondering when the city will fix a water main that broke more than two months ago.

A mound of ice has been building at the corner of Aberdeen and Cottage Avenue for nearly 8 weeks.

A blue flag marks the spot of the water main break that Rosalyn Johnson says has gone from a trickle to a steady stream flowing down the sidewalk and into the roadway.

Johnson, “It’s dangerous for people walking by primarily because it gets really icy and even putting salt on it isn’t melting the ice”

She says she’s called the city at least once a week for the past two months.

The neighbours are also concerned saying that it’s a huge liability in front of their property.

The City has sent salt trucks but even that doesn’t seem to help. Cars were having a difficult time maneuvering the road.

Dave Alberton from the City’s Public Works Department says this problem is on their list. Alberton says, “We look at public safety as our number one impact. we also look at sensitive users on the road and vehicle traffic impacts. He then continues to say, “We’re going to be looking into these issues but at the present time we’re going to be working to fix the water service repair by the end of the week”
