Skin patches and heart disease
Raised yellow patches of skin around the eyelids may predict a person’s risk of heart disease.
The condition is actually deposits of cholesterol, but half of people with them don’t test positive for high cholesterol in a blood test.
In a study of 12,000 people, researchers found the risk of a heart attack or heart disease increased in people who had the discolouring.
The highest risks were among men between the ages of 70 and 79.
