Niagara police warn about a rise in reported puppy scams

Police in the Niagara region say residents should beware of a rise in reported “puppy scams” as more people seek to adopt pets.
The Niagara Regional Police say scammers will request money before meeting up and will blame the pandemic, or some other excuse, for being unable to meet.
Police say the seller will then ask the buyer to send more money for reasons like shipping fees or insurance.
People are advised to ask for references and thoroughly check out a seller’s background before making a purchase.
