Hamilton mayor apologizes for “insensitive” tweet about U.S. Capitol attack

Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger is apologizing after a tweet sent out late Thursday morning.

His tweet referenced the attack on the U.S. Capitol, with Eisenberger saying “Anyone else binge watching the final season of The United States of America!!”

The tweet garnered lots of reaction and replies.

A few hours later, Eisenberger put out two tweets, calling Wednesday a “dark day” for America and saying it should not be described as entertainment.

I would like to apologize for my previous tweet which was meant to bring levity to the situation but was insensitive and inappropriate. I condemn yesterday’s disgraceful event and trust justice will be done to those who led, participated in and encouraged this attack. #HamOnt 2/2
