Ontario reports 2,275 new COVID-19 cases, 20 deaths

Ontario is reporting a 2,275 new cases of COVID-19 and 20 deaths.

This is the first time daily new cases have been above the 2,000 mark and comes as the province completed just 39,566 tests.

The province says there was a change in reporting periods for some health units, meaning the numbers reflect an additional 2.5 hours of data.

Another 1,810 cases have been marked as resolved. Overall, 85.4 per cent of the province’s 144,396 known cases of COVID-19 are resolved.

Here are the COVID-19 numbers for our region:

Haldimand-Norfolk

  • 737 total cases, up 3 from Monday
  • 648 resolved cases
  • 51 active cases
  • 33 deaths

Brant

  • 674 total cases, up 21 from Monday
  • 564 resolved cases
  • 105 active cases
  • 5 deaths
  • 1 in hospital

Hamilton

  • 4,368 total cases, up 56 from Monday
  • 3,431 resolved cases
  • 779 active cases
  • 121 deaths (two new)
  • 52 in hospital

Hamilton Public Health says the two deaths are a woman in her early 90s from St. Joseph’s Villa and a man in his 80s from Shalom Village Nursing Home.

COVID-19 outbreaks have been declared at both facilities, with St. Joseph’s Villa reporting 49 cases and 72 cases reported at Shalom Village.

Halton

  • 4,612 total cases, up 60 from Monday
  • 4,164 resolved cases
  • 364 active cases
  • 84 deaths
  • 31 in hospital

Niagara

  • 2,672 total cases, up 62 from Monday
  • 2,181 resolved cases
  • 402 active cases
  • 89 deaths
  • 37 in hospital

There are 921 patients in Ontario hospitals with COVID-19. Of those, 249 are in intensive care units, with 156 of them hooked up to ventilators.

There were 319 cases of COVID-19 reported in the province’s schools on Tuesday. This number reflects new cases reported between Friday afternoon and Monday afternoon.
