A natural substance produced by the brain during stressful events could help prevent damage after a stroke.
Researchers at Stanford University say a protein called alpha-b crystallin, lowered levels of molecules that cause brain damage in mice.
They found mice that were genetically-bred without the protein had larger lesions in the brain and worse neurological functioning after a stroke.
