Halton police’s enforcement campaign targeting loud vehicles has led to more than 1,400 charges.

Project #Noisemaker was launched in response to an increasing number of complaints from residents about loud and unnecessary noise from altered vehicles.

It was a region-wide initiative that ran from June 10 – Oct. 31.

In that time, police laid 1,420 charges. Of those, 574 were for no/improper mufflers and 396 charges were for unnecessary noise.

There were also 12 charges for racing/stunt driving.

The remaining charges were primarily for moving violations, licence violations and insurance issues.

There were also violations of the Environmental Protection Act due to the removal of vehicle emissions components.

Enforcement was also done on motorcycles in Oakville, with the help of the town’s municipal enforcement services.

There were 56 motorcycle inspections and 17 provincial offence notices for motorcycles making noise in excess of Oakville’s motorcycle noise bylaws.

Police say while Project #Noisemaker has officially ended, officer enforcement will continue.
