Ontario reports 700 new cases of COVID-19, one new death

Ontario is reporting 700 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death.

Numbers reported Monday mark a more than 40 per cent increase from the 491 cases reported Sunday.

Over 41,000 tests were completed, while almost 50,000 are still under investigation.

Another 36 COVID-19 cases have been reported in publicly-funded schools across the province, with at least 27 cases in students.

There are 224 with a reported case of the virus.

According to provincial data, there are 128 people hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 29 are in intensive care and 17 of those are on ventilators.

There have been 50,531 cases of COVID-19 in Ontario. 85 per cent of those are resolved.

The number of deaths sits at 2,840.

There are 4,564 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

Here’s how the numbers break down in our region:

Haldimand-Norfolk: 0 new cases, 5 active cases

Brant: 1 new case, 16 active cases

Niagara: 12 new cases, 86 active cases

Halton: 14 new cases, 171 active cases

Hamilton: 38 new cases, 98 active cases **new cases are since Friday as Hamilton does not update its COVID-19 numbers on weekends
