Amazon has announced plans to open a new fulfillment centre in Hamilton.

This is one of two new centres being built in the province and is expected to open next year.

The other centre will be located in Ajax.

In a news release, the company says the 855,000 square-foot fulfillment centre will employ more than 1,500 people.

It will be located in Mount Hope, adjacent to John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.

They will work alongside Amazon robotics to pick, pack and ship items like books, electronics and toys.

“This further highlights that Hamilton remains the top destination in the province to grow, innovate and do business,” said Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger in a statement.

“This is the beginning of a strong partnership with Amazon Canada, and I look forward to our continued collaboration in the future.”

Stoney Creek is also slated to get a new delivery station in 2021.
